I've gotten a lot of comments on my recent photos, saying how beautiful the colors are. I wondered, can you have beauty without color? I almost never think of trying a black and white photo, but that is indeed a choice. My girl says we are defined by the choices we make - I think she's smarter than I am. I also think about the choices I've made over the years - glad I did this, wish I'd done that, coulda, shoulda, if only.
I find it interesting how different folks deal with bad choices. Some hover over an incident and never get past it. Some close their eyes and make the same mistake over and over. Others never realize it was a choice - they feel they were victims. But we all make good choices and bad ones, hopefully we learn, and we move on. Because in the end, we have only one choice: to embrace the future, be it color, or black and white.
I think you can have beauty without color, perhaps a different kind of beauty. One that derives from form and structure. I also think you can have color without beauty. Just find a middle aged self-declared artist who just bought his first set of acrylic paints and a canvas.
