When I stumbled upon this small pond and saw the mountains reflected so perfectly, I knew I had a winner. But when I tried to capture what I saw, it just didn't work. I wish I had a wide angle lens at the time, but no such luck. I was testing out my new camera on this trip, a Sony compact Nex-5n. This cool camera has a built-in panorama function that works in any direction, including up and down. I played with that feature a while but the panorama still was getting cut off at the top. So, I went back to the old fashioned method, and snapped four shots starting at my feet and going up.
Stitching such shots together is always tricky because of changes in exposure or depth of field or whatever - at least it is for this amateur. But I gave it a try back at the ranch. The result was quite good, although I ended up with some gaps on the sides that I had to fix with my clone stamp in Photoshop Elements. I'm very pleased with the final product. This ended up being my favorite shot from the trip.
