I stroll along the hillside, searching for the way,
looking for the path to guide me each and every day.
The herd has let me down at times, and led me far astray.
Today I stand here all alone, a distance from the fray.
I've taken steps to get here, steps I do not hide.
Some moves were good, and some were bad, but all were done with pride.
I am a humble creature, marching headfirst into life -
not easy in this cloudy world, a world so full of strife.
Along the way, I've seen so many wonders of this earth.
A poor man helping others, a proud mom giving birth.
I've seen the ugliness of hate, the jaundiced eye of lust,
the pleasure from accomplishment, the rosy look of trust.
I've peered down into once blue eyes, now blackened from dark lies,
and breathed the air on mountaintops that scrape the deep blue skies.
I now have learned the color scheme of what is wrong and right.
A clear lens sheds obscurity, the path is now in sight.
