The American Spirit

American Spirit

A shadow from a distant time,
cast upon a lifeless vine,
watching o'er this desert floor,
guarding dreams that are no more.

A spirit guides us every day
to test our souls in every way.
A mother's child, a father's son,
a family searching for the sun.

The prairie sighs a breath of spring,
the homestead goes on weathering.
This tapestry of hope and strife,
the story of American life.
